Just how absurd is it...

"You know, if you think how we're born..and we gro through all the struggle of growing up..and learning the multiplication tables..and the name for everything...the rules...how not to get run over...braid your hair...pig Latin...Just all the effort. Then getting a job...probably something you don't even like doing...for not enough money..like tending bar. And that's if you are lucky. That's if you're not born in Calcutta or the U.S. without money....Then there's your marriage..having your own kids if...you know. And they're going through the same struggle all over again.Only worse, because...somebody's trying to sell them crack in the first grade by now. And all this time you are paying taxes. Your hair starts to fall out...and you are wearing six pairs of glasses...which you can never seem to find. And you can't recognize yourself in the mirror. And if you live long enough you finally get to watch everybody die. All your loved one's..your wife..your husband. Your kids. maybe. And you're totaally alone. And as a final reward for all this...you disappear. No one knows where.

They forgot all the good things: the time your teacher held up you book in front of the whole class and said "See what wonderful handwriting, i want handwriting like this", the first book that made you say wow, your first kiss, your first child's first smile, etc etc. They are equally numerous. Life cud be anywhere between unbearable to fabulous.

The above comment makes a valid point. But how come so many more lives are as described in the post and how few are as in the comment? Is it all just down to perspective?
Personally, I prefer the George Costanza theory.
Ah, now THERE'S perspective!

I am born in Calcutta. That means I won't even be lucky enough to tend a bar. (which might be a good thing or i would be permanently drunk)

does this mean i don't even get the marriage and the kids bit? though my life does seem to be headed that way....

sigh!

Chrysanthemum :
Sure. Life can be fabulous at times but if we are dividing moments into both sides of the balance sheet I doubt if it will ever balance for anybody...and more often than not the "fabulous" column of the balance sheet is going to look quite dismal. But hey like Zap says it just is.

Non-Sensei:
Yep. THERE'S a perspective alright.

Obscured :
Now don't you go on an take all of this too literally. This movie was made 12 years back. Very few would dare talk about Calcutta with the assumption of poverty today. Best of luck with the marriage and kids BTW.

u got me wrong there. when i say 'my life does seem headed there...' i mean 'my life does seem headed to a life with no husband and no kids...'
thanks for you wishes though.
